Interactive Quiz and Community Campaign

To help a local prevention council spur families to talk, we built an interactive quiz to get young people and parents talking about prevention

Challenge

Substance use prevention takes place at the local level. Every community and even every family has to know what strategies work best for their unique needs. And we know that parents play a key role in preventing substance use in young people. When the STEPS Youth Council had a unique idea, they turned to our team to bring it to life. These eager high school students wanted to get parents and young people on the same page around prevention. They wanted to inspire conversations and make sure that families know how to talk and know the action steps they can take to stay safe. This would let STEPS make an even bigger impact in their community. And that is the kind of noble mission that gets us up every morning.

Our challenge was fun. We had to work directly with the STEPS Youth Council to create a vision and plan for the project. And we had to make one of their unique ideas come to life.

Solution

Our team started by leading discovery conversations with the STEPS Youth Council. We asked questions and brainstormed ideas to flesh out goals, concepts, and touchpoints to engage young people and families. They had a very specific vision for the creative approach on the project that we needed to bring to life. It had a campaign theme of It’s Not Cheesy to Talk to Your Kids. And they sketched an animated pizza character named Randy as the focal point.

All this background informed our work on a community campaign with an interactive quiz as the centerpiece. The quiz highlighted positive local data points around substance use prevention. It also provided action steps for families around positive communications. Finally, it provided real-life, prevention-related scenarios for families to discuss. This helped young people and trusted adults get on the same page around norms, expectations, and action steps. We built the quiz as an integrated part of the STEPS website. We also created a community awareness campaign to launch the quiz. It included a pizza box sticker, billboard, direct mail postcard, social media graphics, promo items, and more.

As the prevention coalition in Southington, CT, our successes would not be where they are without the incredible support of Charge Ahead. From creating a dynamic, user-friendly website to providing consistent, high-quality support for all of our prevention campaigns, their team truly goes above and beyond.

Charge Ahead is timely, professional, and always willing to help—no matter the project. Their creativity, responsiveness, and dedication have made them an invaluable partner in our mission to support and protect our community. We can’t recommend them highly enough!
