Interactive Quiz on Social Host Laws
Substance use prevention takes place at the local level. Every community and even every family has to know what strategies work best for their unique needs. As the calendar turned to Spring and prom season approached, the STEPS team had a need to make prevention interactive. They wanted to make sure that parents know how to keep young people safe during prom season parties. This included facts, risks, and action steps around social host laws. And making it interactive would let STEPS make a big impact in their community at an important teaching moment for young people and parents alike. And that is the kind of noble mission that gets us up every morning.
Our challenge was both fun and clear. We had to bring interactive education to life around social host laws. And give STEPS a platform to engage parents and trusted adults in their community.
Interactive Quiz on Social Host Laws
Our team started by leading discovery conversations, researching data, and talking to young people and parents. We also worked on ideas around technology and concepts and workflows. All this background informed our work to build an interactive quiz on social host laws and related information. The quiz would launch during prom season and we ran with a concept title from the STEPS team called Host Perfectly. Our team drafted the quiz content, which focused on legal aspects of the social host laws yet also weaved in prevention action steps and best practices. This helped parents and trusted adults get on the same page around norms, expectations, risks, and action steps to prevent alcohol misuse. We built the quiz as an integrated part of the STEPS website and also created a community awareness campaign to launch the quiz. It included a billboard, direct mail postcard, and social media graphics.
